Step back in time and immerse yourself in the world of New Deal-era design! Join us for an exciting hands-on workshop led by graphic artist Luke Duran, where you will explore the rich history of WPA (Works Progress Administration) posters. These iconic pieces of art played a significant role in promoting America's National Parks and public projects during the 1930s and 1940s.
Luke will begin by discussing the origins and evolution of WPA design, highlighting key elements such as visual composition, color palettes, and typography. Participants will have the unique opportunity to deconstruct one of the classic National Park posters, learning how its visual elements work together to create a powerful message.
After this insightful introduction, you’ll roll up your sleeves and dive into the creative process! Using the traditional method of mechanical pasteup, you will design and assemble your very own WPA-style poster. Whether you're a seasoned artist or a beginner, this workshop will provide you with the skills and inspiration to create a striking piece of art that reflects the timeless charm of WPA design
